A Birthday Saved!

A Birthday Saved!

While preparing for my husband’s deployment I would often think of all the events he would miss during his time overseas. Our «non-wedding» anniversary, 4th of July, my birthday, Labor Day, our «wedding» anniversary, his birthday, Halloween, and Thanksgiving (highly likely that Christmas will be added to this list as well)В are to name just a few.Every time I listed off the occasions he would miss, I would become annoyed, and frustrated, and sad.Not only does such aВ situation mean that my husband will miss the chance to celebrate such holidays with his favorite person (me, duh!),В butВ that I will also be forced to spend such occasions without him, and possibly alone.

Well, we forgot about our «non-wedding» anniversary, and 4th of July weekend was well spent with a three-yearВ old’s birthday, a kegger, and a day of shopping. Then came my birthday, which to me is one of the more awesome occasions to celebrate on the list. However, I greatly feared that it would be an epic failure, given that my husband (you know, the one half way across the world?) has played a major role in making my past birthdays amazing.Well, I am happy to report that my birthday was saved!WhileВ I greatlyВ missed my husband, and maybe even secretly hoped he wouldВ pop out of a gigantic present box, I did indeed have a fabulous timeВ celebrating another year ofВ being alive!YouВ know why?Because I have the best friends and family a girl could ask for!

I spent Saturday shopping with a friend, and then we had a fabulous fondue dinner at my new favorite restaurant The Melting Pot (you should go there, it’s amazing). We then ended the night with a few delicious cocktails,В witnessing a near bar fight, and me shrieking about aВ  hairy moth camping out on my arm (not my finest moment).В Sunday I spent relaxing, which is something I have been craving for quite a few weeks. It seems since my husband left, I have been more busy and haven’t had the opportunity to spend a day just as I please.Well, I made sure my schedule was free on Sunday, and I went through the entire day without planning ANYTHING!Yes, folks, I did not plan anything that day.В Not even what to have for dinner (which ended up being a healthy salad followed by a slice of red velvet cake from Albertson’s bakery..I may have watched multiple episodes of Cake Boss that day which led to an incessant need for cake). Then on Monday, my actual day of birth, I spent some time at work, where much of my staff and clients made sure to wish me «Happy Birthday» throughout the day.I really do love my job so much!I have some awesome coworkers, and many adorable clients (until they throw their intense tantrums..) which makes my days go by fast and usually leave me with a smile on my face.Oh, and you know that fabulous lady I talk about a lot,В she goes by the name «Mom»?Well, she had a gorgeous flower arrangement sent to my work that makes me smile every time I look at it’s pretty pink flowersВ (thanks again Mom!).To complete my day,В  a friend made me lasagnaВ (best, ever!), and bought me a delicious ice cream cake.Oh and her three-yearВ old made sure that I felt especially loved. And yes, I did e-mail my husband throughout the entire day, and every email he sent was complete with «Happy Birthday to You».I’ve also receivedВ many cards in the mail, and was sent numerousВ birthday wishes on Facebook (mostly by actual friends!).

So, my birthday was not an epic failure at all.At all.В In fact, it was the best it could’veВ been without having my husband by my side.So first I would like to thank those of you that helped save my birthday. You are awesome!Secondly, I want to report that birthdays do not have to be terrible just because yourВ spouse is deployed.I honestly was dreading the wh*le birthday experience and was convinced I would end up spending most of it sitting in the recliner chair, curled up, depressed, and eating a cake I bought myself out of sheer desperation. So not the case! And if you have a little faith in those around you, I bet your birthday can be saved too!
