Just returned from our vacation out west - Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park.
I have not been out in that area since I was 2, so of course, remember very little.Las Vegas, was, well, Las Vegas.I was reading a statistic that says that only 13% of people who visit Las Vegas say they are going to gamble, but over 80% actually do gamble while there.Well, I am proud to say we were in the less than 20% who did not.I don't know, it just doesn't interest me.The slot machines are loud and annoying and it seems so seedy to sit there and just plunk money into a loosing endeavor.Anyway, we stayed in the downtown area on Fremont Street - not on the Strip.Fremont Street has all of the old casinos - looks like they haven't been renovated since the 1970's.Our hotel had missing buttons on the elevators and just overall doddy-looking walls/rooms/doors.The Fremont Street experience was something else too...We did visit the Strip to check out some of the more famous casino/hotels.I think our favorite was the Venetian, with the Luxor followed closely behind. We saw a Cirque du Soleil show, "Mystere", which was pretty amazing!I'm not at all a circus person (although now that I think about, it I know very few people who are - most people are freaked out by clowns and the like), but this was pure art, a spectacular show, imaginative and awe-inspiring choreography, fabulous costumes...I hope they come to Philly soon, because I will definitely go check them out again.
The only downside was that I got sick/some sort of food poisoning the last day.At least it happened then, and not, say, when we were hiking the GC.So, P and I ended up something we have never done and that I would never do in a healthy state do - stay in bed all day, watching TV and sleeping. There was something kind of nice about it, in spite of being sick.I won't ever do something like that healthy, and hopefully I won't have to do it again for a long time, but it was still kind of nice.
Now I have to catch up on a ton of work.Grand Canyon and Zion updates tomorrow!
